The Unit 24 Texas Journey
Our story...
Casey Craig, born in Boulder, grew up on the Eastern Plains of Colorado. His upbringing was centered around a multi million dollar nonprofit focused on saving the lives of large carnivores from across the Country and around the world. As soon as he could walk, Casey was all hands on deck helping out with the seemingly endless jobs of the “family business”. However, it was more than a business. It was about saving lives, extreme fiscal responsibility, meeting harsh deadlines, overcoming obstacles, braving the elements and making the lives of these animals immeasurably better, one set of paws at a time.
As Casey got older his experience grew, his skills honed, he became the Chief Operating Officer of the organization. Overseeing the construction of guest facilities, a mile and a half long walkway, animal habitats, vet clinics, and animal nutrition centers. Casey met his wife Tawny in 2009, when she was hired to work for the organization. In 2012 they married and Casey is the proud and loving father to three beautiful children, two daughters and a son. By 2017 Casey was on the road quite a bit, with a young son and family at home, he decided to branch out on his own and start his own business.
The family moved not far from their roots and landed in Ogallala Nebraska. A seemingly quiet town in western Nebraska most famously known for lake McConaughy and being the town “Too tough for Texas” in its pioneer days. Being a business owner was a first for Casey and his family so they got to work building what is now Unit 24.
This does beg a pause, as it’s a question that comes up a lot; how did you pick ”Unit 24”? And that’s a valid question, and the answer isn’t as exciting as one might think. Back when Casey and his wife were working at the nonprofit they had work radios, and they all had an assigned number. Casey's radio was number 24, hence the number she hoped would be popping up on her radio. 24 became a number, a symbol, and a saying “Love you 24 ever”, long before Unit 24 was born.
The name Unit 24 stands for more than just a business, it stands on family, trust, the ability to overcome obstacles and make dreams come true.
The business took off in Ogallala and one of the first issues that stood out was how difficult it was for people to find a contractor who did what they promised. This was a shocking revelation for Casey, coming from his background, not keeping a promise was not an option. Word of Unit 24 spread quickly in Keith County Nebraska and soon he was inundated with work. Relationships and friendships were made and as his oldest daughter went through high school the business grew, and so did it’s stellar reputation.
With a vision of growth and opportunity Casey began to explore ways to branch out the business, and after a family vacation to Arizona, everyone was looking south; and Texas was in the crosshairs. Originally the idea of Austin was very appealing, and after many trips down (and miles on the car) and some time spent further south of Austin, they fell in love with the Hill Country and knew it would be just the place to take the next level of Unit 24.

UNIT 24 recently completed a bathroom remodel for me, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. They were very competitively priced, communicated clearly throughout the entire project, and importantly showed up exactly when they said they would. From start to finish, the remodel took just three weeks, and the whole process was completely stress‑free. The tile work was pristine, and they paid extra attention to cleanup and the finishing details to make sure I was truly pleased with the results. I’ve already decided to hire them again for my kitchen floor. Highly recommend UNIT 24 and I’m a tough grader!
I've used Unit 24 several times with great results. Casey's scheduling is usually very timely and the work is solid. I haven't had any issues with any of the jobs. They built a garage and also added an extended Gable over my porch. The pricing is competitive and the professionalism is spot on.
